Block Captain Ken Hartley in the 600 - 700 block of 30th Street has contacted LA County West Vector regarding a mosquito invasion in his neighborhood.  They have confirmed an unusually high population and are trying to determine the source.  Please make sure that you drain all standing water.

Motorist runs a bicyclist off road, causing bicyclist to crash into a parked car causing minor injury. The motorist then fled the scene, but was later arrested at his residence. Witness obtained the suspect vehicle plate as it was fleeing the scene, which enabled HBPD to locate the suspect. (If you witness a crime with a vehicle involved, GET THE PLATE and description and call 911)

Vehicle VS Pedestrian, minor injury, suspect fled scene. Suspect: dark SUV with male Hispanic driver NFD.

Lifeguard witnesses subject jump off pier. The subject before jumping was allegedly despondent. Helicopters and boats from various agencies were involved in the search. Subject was spotted later in a local bar soaking wet.

 

Special notes:  

The city has been experiencing a high volume of unlocked vehicle thefts. Suspects are entering unlocked vehicle and stealing personal items and electronics. These thefts are occurring city wide, during evening hours. (LOCK YOUR CAR, PLEASE!).

Activity for July 22nd to 28th 2012

 

The department responded to two (2) fires last week. One (1) was an outside trash fire in Hermosa Beach and the other was initially reported at Mira Costa High School, but investigation found no fire on the school site. HBFD units responded to nine (9) auto/mutual aid requests, consisting of the aforementioned fire response, six (6) medical emergencies, and twice cancelled. Hermosa Beach received aid five (5) times, four (4) medical emergencies and one (1) report of smoke in the area.

 

"Emergency Medical/Rescue" definitions:

  • Abdominal: Patients with non-traumatic abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, etc.
  • Behavioral: Patients overdoses on legal and/or illegal drugs, intoxicated, and/or suffering from psychosis.
  • Cardiac: Heart attacks, chest pain.
  • Environmental: Heat and cold-related emergencies, allergic reactions.
  • General Illness: Flu-related symptoms or non-specific illness complaints.
  • Neurological: Seizure, stroke, decrease level of consciousness.
  • Respiratory: Trouble breathing from various causes.
  • Trauma/Injury: Non-medical emergency. Physical injury to the body.
  • No Complaint: Dispatched to an incident, but subject had no medical complaints.

1300 Block of Elm Ave.

(Residential Burglary) While the victim was home, a suspect opened the side window to the residence and moved the window blinds to gain entry. The victim called 911 and police officers from neighboring agencies responded to assist, including a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department helicopter. A perimeter was set up and a subject was discovered walking out of the neighboring yard. The subject was determined to be involved and was arrested for burglary.

(Theft) The victim met with a subject, whom she had met on Craigslist, to purchase Disneyland tickets. The victim gave the subject $900 for the tickets, but when she went to Disneyland, she discovered the tickets were invalid.
