There will be a driver sobriety/driver's license checkpoint

in Hermosa Beach on August 24rd, 2012.

The Hermosa Beach Police Departments in conjunction with the South Bay DUI Task Force/Avoid the 100 will be conducting a driver's sobriety/driver's license checkpoint on Friday August 24th 2012, from 9 PM to 3AM. The checkpoint will be set up to check E/B Artesia Boulevard traffic just west of Prospect Avenue.

A goal of the checkpoint will be to contact drivers and educate them regarding the dangers of driving under the influence of Alcohol/Drugs. Another goal of the checkpoint is to identify and remove impaired and/or unlicensed drivers.

Lieutenant Thompson from the Hermosa Beach Police Department said, "It is our intent to contact as many drivers as possible and warn them about the dangers of impaired driving. If we can prevent one tragedy through education and/or enforcement then the checkpoint will have accomplished it main goal."

The South Bay Regional DUI Task Force/Avoid the 100 is comprised of the following South Bay police agencies: Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Palos Verdes Estates, Torrance, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Gardena, and the California Highway Patrol (South LA Office and West LA Office), and the El Camino College Police Department. Funding is provided through California Office of Traffic Safety.
