Activity for July 8th to 14th 2012

Two (2) hazardous condition incidents occurred in Hermosa Beach: one (1) involving downed power lines and the other involved spilled paint products. Of the 14 auto/mutual responses, Hermosa Beach units were cancelled prior to arriving on seven (7) of those and responded to medical emergencies on six (6) occasions. HBFD received assistance from Manhattan Beach on five (5) occasions (4 emergency medical and 1 alarm activation incidents) and twice from Redondo Beach (both emergency medical incidents).

When we have multiple incidents in a short time frame, outside resources are needed.  Sometimes we require aid because we have a unit providing aid to another city.  Most of the aid is received because the EMT and/or paramedic ambulance is on another incident and we need a patient transported.

"Emergency Medical/Rescue" definitions:

  • Abdominal: Patients with non-traumatic abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, etc.
  • Behavioral: Patients overdoses on legal and/or illegal drugs, intoxicated, and/or suffering from psychosis.
  • Cardiac: Heart attacks, chest pain.
  • Environmental: Heat and cold-related emergencies, allergic reactions.
  • General Illness: Flu-related symptoms or non-specific illness complaints.
  • Neurological: Seizure, stroke, decrease level of consciousness.
  • Respiratory: Trouble breathing from various causes.
  • Trauma/Injury: Non-medical emergency. Physical injury to the body.
