Learn "Hands Only" CPR

HB FireStation

The sidewalk CPR concept is to take a few minutes to teach individuals compressions-only CPR.  While they will obviously not be certified in CPR, they will be informed how to perform compressions on a cardiac arrest victim until our paramedics arrive at the scene.  Compressions only have shown some effectiveness in improving patient outcome in cardiac arrests. ~ Chief Lantzer

Activity for the Week of May 27 to June 2

The three (3) fire responses were automatic aid structure fires in Redondo Beach, the last being a Saturday morning house fire that Hermosa Beach firefighters helped contain. The two hazardous condition incidents occurred in Hermosa Beach: one was downed wires and the second was a residential natural gas leak.

Hermosa, Manhattan and Redondo Beach fire units were very busy in their respective cities and in each other's city, as can be seen in the higher than usual total number of incidents and the number of automatic/mutual aid responses given and received by Hermosa Beach units. While it is comforting to know that our neighbors are there to assist us when we have no available units, each of the "Auto/Mutual Aid Received" incidents represent extended response times.

The past week's activity can be attributed to Fiesta Hermosa and the weather. Call volume over the Memorial Day weekend was double of what the average weekend's activity is (43 emergency responses from Saturday the 26th to Monday the 28th).
