Former mayor schedules shared services summit
Former Hermosa Beach Mayor George Barks is calling out city officials.
In order to save the financial future of the beach cities, Barks is asking city managers, City Council members, superintendents and School Board members to attend his summit on shared services.
Barks, who was on the
council from 1974 through 1986, serving as mayor in 1975, 1980 and 1985, found a community in
which has proven that sharing services through separate cities is viable.
Council to amend codes for reconstruction and remodeling
Fires, floods and earthquakes can damage a business well beyond its four walls, and it often takes longer than the city's one-year limit to rebuild, but officials are hoping that current steps to amend El Segundo's building code will give some owners double the time to reconstruct.
Zero tolerance for cell phone use and texting
As part of California's first Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April, the El Segundo Police Department will be conducting "zero-tolerance" enforcement for cell phone use and texting. A ticket for violating either the hands-free or no-texting law costs a minimum of $159, and subsequent tickets cost $279.
